Rombauer has won this year's Preakness Stakes at 11-1 odds. Midnight Bourbon finished 2nd. Medina Spirit finished 3nd.
Midnight Bourbon had become the favorite Saturday following some heavy betting activity. By post time, Midnight Bourbon and Medina Spirit were co-favorites at around 5-2 odds.
Trainer Bob Baffert, who was not in attendance at Pimlico, says Medina Spirit’s Kentucky Derby victory was “the result of the horse’s tremendous heart and nothing else” and he insists “there was never any attempt to game or cheat the system” -- references to the horse’s postrace positive test for a steroid at Churchill Downs.
