Mark Cuban and Adelson Family Push for Gambling in Dallas
ARLINGTON, TX (Gambling911.com) - On Wednesday, the Adelson and Dumont families, owners of the Las Vegas Sands, confirmed they are in a binding purchase agreement to acquire a majority ownership stake in the Dallas Mavericks.
Mark Cuban, the Mavs current owner, has expressed a desire to bring a casino resort to Dallas.
My goal, and we'd partner with Sands, is when we build a new arena it'll be in the middle of a resort and casino. That's the mission," Cuban told the Dallas Morning News in December 2022.
He continued: "Texas is such an amazing state that we need to be a destination. And this is the way to do it. And partnering with the Sands Corporation, literally there's no reason why we can't build a huge resort destination in the city proper of Dallas. There's plenty of places to do it."
There's one small problem. The state is not particularly friendly towards any form of gambling. State lawmakers have opposed efforts to legalize sports gambling.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick made this abundantly clear following news of the Mavericks deal.
"I've said repeatedly there is little to no support for expanding gaming from Senate GOP. I polled members this week. Nothing changed. The senate must focus on issues voters expect us to pass. We don’t waste time on bills without overwhelming GOP support. HB1942 won’t be referred."
The parties hope to receive approval from the NBA board of governors and finalize the deal by the end of 2023, according to a statement released Wednesday by Sands.
Oklahoma State Cowboys @ Texas Longhorns Prop Bets
ARLINGTON, TX (Gambling911.com) - Oklahoma State is as big as a +15 road dog facing off against Texas in the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington Sunday. A win would keep the Longhorns Playoff hopes alive though they do not control their own destiny.
The Longhorns enter the game as the third one-loss team in the rankings, behind No. 5 Oregon and No. 6 Ohio State.
Oregon was taking on Washington Friday night. Ohio State had the weekend off.
"I don't know why I wouldn't think we're a College Football Playoff contender," Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said. "We'll talk more about that I'm sure after the game Saturday, but we're in great position. But I also know we've got to take care of business. There is no College Football Playoff talk if we don't play really good Saturday trying to find a way to win. And if that happens, then there's another discussion to be had."
This will be just the second championship game the 9-3 Cowboys have played in. They previously made an appearance in 2021, losing to Baylor.
Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman was listed at Over/Under 247.5 passing yards while the Longhorns Quinn Ewers came in at Over/Under 274.5.
