In recent months Gambling911.com has noticed that Bookmaker.com increased its maximum betting limits on UFC fights to $1000. Last year, the vast number of these fights featured maximum limits of $500 and that is still the case at many of the recreational outlets.
But even bouts such as Saturday night's UFC Fight Night 17 has the $1000 limit.
"This is a sure sign that more and more professional gamblers are betting on the sport," points out Payton O'Brien of Gambling911.com. "We certainly noticed the intense interest generated by UFC 94 last weekend."
Most of the fights on the UFC Fight Night 17 card with the notable exception of Cain Velasquez vs. Denis Stojnic require a nominal risk when placing the bet on favorites since most are under -200. In the case of Velasquez you have a situation where you would have to bet $615 just to win $100 at Bookmaker.com. The original $615 of course is paid back along with the $100 assuming Velasquez wins.
"The pros would consider this a ‘lock' but is laying $1000 to win just under $200 really worth it?" asks O'Brien.
A fighter the likes of Joe Lauzon also has a good shot of beating his opponent, Jeremy Stephens, but the risk is not as steep. One has to lay $200 to win $100.
"With the $1000 maximum bet, a $500 win might be more worthwhile for the pros," says O'Brien. "They see this as an easy $500 pay day. Then they will pick and choose among other sports this weekend trying to find the best value."
The favorites tend to win the majority of bouts featured on UFC cards, hence the reason Bookmaker.com is doing a little more enticing on this front in addition to offering their regular 20 percent cash deposit bonus upon opening an account (deposit $500, receive a free $100 in which to bet with for example).
