Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, who is currently awaiting trial in a notorious Peruvian prison for the murder of college student Stephany Flores, has refused to speak to a judge handling his case.

Van der Sloot had initially confessed to the May 30 beating death of Ms. Flores after meeting her while playing poker in a local casino.  Van der Sloot was attending the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) at the time, though he was not scheduled to play in the event.   Surveillance cameras showed Joran escorting Flores up to his hotel room.  A transcript of the confession reveals he elbowed the young woman in the nose then strangled her with both hands, threw her to the floor before removing his bloodied shirt to asphyxiate Ms. Flores.

Superior Court Judge Carlos Morales visited the 22-year-old but van der Sloot refused to talk as per his attorney’s request.

The young Dutchman claims he had confessed only after being intimidated by police and informed he would be permitted to face trial in his native Netherlands.

In an interview with a local Dutch paper, De Telegraaf, van der Sloot recently boasted about receiving marriage proposals from women.

“One even wants to have my baby,” he told the paper.

If convicted in the murder of Flores, van der Sloot faces between 15 to 35 years in prison.

Van der Sloot has long been the primary suspect in the disappearance of Alabama High School grad Natalee Hollaway while she vacationed in Aruba during the summer of 2005.
