A bill to make Internet gambling legal in the state of New Jersey was expected to be signed into law as early as month’s end.

Joe Brennan, Jr., head of the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA.org) advised Gambling911.com that he anticipates the measure landing on Governor Chris Christie’s desk by the end of November.  Christie is widely expected to sign the legislation into law.  Brennan’s organization is working closely with state officials regarding this bill.

To date, only two states have legalized online gambling including Nevada and Delaware.  Nevada will not allow wagering outside the state’s border until federal legislation is passed.  New Jersey could begin forming state compacts similar to that of the lottery system’s Powerball over the coming months.

New Jersey was devastated by last week's SuperStorm Sandy, a strong Category 1 hurricane that ravaged the state's coastline towns and knocked out power to over 2 million people at one point.  The situation was not expected to delay voting on the Internet gambling bill.

New Jersey is already set to begin licensing sports betting operations the first week of January.
