A Federal judge in New York has ruled poker a “game of skill” Tuesday.

For some time the federal government has insisted poker is a “game of chance” and, as such, should be made illegal under the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

The decision by Judge Jack Weinstein in Brooklyn was embraced by advocates of card games pushing to legalize Internet poker in the United States. The judge relied extensively on the findings of a defense expert who analyzed online poker games, according to the Associated Press.

A conviction against Lawrence Dicristina has been thrown out.  Disristina is a businessman who sold electric bicycles and operated a poker club in the back room of his Staten Island warehouse.
