After losing its third game in the Great Lakes Region tournament to Illinois, New Albany Little League was able to power through the rest of the games to meet Illinois again in the championship. Kevin Klingerman and Nolan Pettinger led their team in the Great Lakes Region Championship with eight strikeouts and an RBI single, respectively.

New Albany lost to Illinois on Monday but worked its way back through the loser’s bracket, beating Kentucky on Tuesday followed by Thursday’s win over Illinois.

Hamilton was the most recent team representing Ohio to make the final in 2021.  They faced off against the ultimate winner Taylor, Michigan as international teams were still unable to enter the US due to Covid-19 restrictions.  An Ohio team had never made it to the final previous to 2021.

El Segundo Little League went 3-0 in the West Region Tournament to secure its spot in the LLBWS. With one win against Hawaii and two wins over Northern California, including one in the championship, El Segundo Little League marks the 53rd World Series appearance by a team form the state of California.

The unbeaten squad of 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars now head off to Williamsport, Pa.

Four days of rest did little to knock these little guys off their game against San Ramon’s Bollinger Canyon.

“It’s not fun to have four days off but at the end of the day, we got to go home and sleep in our own beds and we needed it,” El Segundo manager Danny Boehle said.
