Around two dozen alleged mobsters were busted Wednesday morning during a massive probe into a multi-million dollar sports betting and loansharking operation in the New York City area. Police believe those arrested are associates of the Gambino and Lucchese crime families.

The feds busted 22 captains and a Sanitation Department official who was caught on tape calling his relative, Michael Murdrucco, tipping him that the city agency was seeking new concrete barriers, a multi-million dollar contract, that he should try to get, sources told The Post.

Other arrests included reputed Gambino capo Carmine Sciandra, who owns the store Top Tomato in the Travis section of Staten Island.

In December 2005, Sciandra was shot inside his produce store during a tussle with former NYPD Officer Patrick Balsamo.

The arrests come just one month after several associates of the online gambling website BetOnLine.com were apprehended in New York as part of a Queens District Attorney's investigation.

A press conference was expected later today.
