Norman Steinberg (AKA Tom Miller) has received a 3-year suspended sentence for his role as the number 3 man in BetOnSports, at one time the largest online sportsbook and call center catering to North American bettors.  As part of the arrangement, Steinberg will be able to return to Costa Rica where he has lived for over 10 years.

From AM Costa Rica:

Steinberg filed a civil suit against the government in another state. The unknown allegations in that case caused prosecutors to seek a mild sentence for Steinberg. In exchange he dropped the case and pleaded guilty Thursday.

The St. Louis Dispatch reported the following:

As part of a plea agreement Thursday, Steinberg agreed to drop a mysterious lawsuit against the government that was filed under seal in federal court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Steinberg was one of the only named individuals who had not turned himself into US authorities or was otherwise captured.  Operating under the name Tom Miller, Steinberg ran the massive Millennium Sports, a sister book of BetonSports.  By itself, Millennium was one of the five biggest sportsbooks in Costa Rica.

Gary Kaplan, who founded BetOnSports, is expected to be released from a St. Louis prison shortly after serving a one year sentence.

David Carruthers, the former CEO of BetOnSports, is serving a three year sentence and is said to be in a “bad mental state”.

Each of the individuals were charged with money laundering, racketeering and tax evasion along with various other counts.

Steinberg has been in legal trouble before with US officials in a matter involving his days as a pharmacist.
