It's All About Gamecocks Basketball Right Now
The men's Gamecocks entered March with just five losses and easily made their way into this year's Big Dance. Back in early January, their 16-3 record was tied for South Carolina’s fifth-best 19-game start in program history. They even exceeded what some of the most decorated teams in Gamecocks history had managed to do at this point in the season.
To put this in some perspective, the 2015-16 Gamecocks got off to a 17-2 start but would go on to lose five of their final eight and failed to make the tournament altogether. The team had played in the Final Four the year prior and held onto many of the key players from that season.
South Carolina won 25 games that season, its most since 1969-70 and tied for the second-most in program history. Ahead of their March 2 game versus Florida, the Gamecocks were looking to hit 24 wins. They had two more games to play that could either tie their most wins ever or ultimately shatter that record.

"The Gamecocks bounced back from their two-game losing streak with an easier-than-expected win at Ole Miss. Their defense was back on track, holding the Rebels to 0.91 points per possession -- their first time holding an opponent below one point per possession since Jan. 30. B.J. Mack is now averaging 16.8 points in his past four games."
The women's Gamecocks were favorites to win the Championship at -120.
Clemson and Charleston were also represented in the March Madness NCAA Men's Tournament.
