The numbers are in and the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports that $87.5 million was bet on this year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.  The number does not reflect the millions bet online.

Of that amount, the sportsbooks kept less than 1 percent, or $724,000 total.

Heavy action came in on the Green Bay Packers spread as well as the OVER.  Prop bets and substantial Pittsburgh Steelers money line action helped balance things out somewhat.

Green Bay beat Pittsburgh by a score of 6 points, 31-25, to win the 2011 Super Bowl and easily cover the 3-point spread (most Vegas books were holding at -2.5).

Some Vegas Sportsbook Directors offered up lofty predictions of a $90 million year.  Still, the amount of money wagered beat out last year’s $82.7 million.  The books took in a lot more profit in 2010, however, holding on to $6.9 million.

The record amount bet is $94.5 million on the 2006 Super Bowl.

While Gambling911.com has been bullish on the Browns over the past two weeks, action was balanced on this one with the line only moving up a half point over the course of the week, making this game less attractive in terms of a glaring "must bet" situation.
