Why is Mark Jackson Favored?
Just a few weeks ago he was not even listed among the odds, now he's the favorite.
BetOnline released their updated odds instilling Jackson as the odds-on favorite after he was given the blessing by the anointed one, Lebron James.
According to The Athletic, James would be “very enthused” by the potential of Mark Jackson succeeding Frank Vogel.
Jackson became a broadcast commentator for ESPN and ABC following a successful NBA playing career. Jackson is also a former head coach of the Golden State Warriors. In 2013, Jackson took the team to their first playoffs appearance in six years with a 47-35 record.
The next season, Golden State improved to 51–31, the team's first season with 50 or more wins since 1993–94. They reached the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1992, but lost in the first round to the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games. On May 6, 2014, Jackson was removed as head coach of the Warriors and replaced by Steve Kerr who ultimately took the Warriors to their first NBA title in 40 years.
There is one small problem. Jackson reportedly had issues with Warriors management and, judging by how the Lakers handled the Vogel firing, he might not be thrilled to join that organization.
Yahoo Sports, wrote the following: “Jackson clashed constantly with management and struggled to manage his coaching staff during his Warriors tenure. Jackson’s lack of interest in game preparation and reluctance to practice despite a mostly young and gifted roster played a part in management’s reluctance to commit long term to him, league sources said.”
