The next step is a big one: Contend for the Gators’ first SEC title since 2008. To challenge Georgia in the East, the Gators will need some key pieces to fall into place on the O-line, the interior of the defense and at safety. Limiting injuries also will be imperative due to a lack of depth in several areas as Mullen and his staff continue to recruit to fill the holes left by the prior regime.

The Noles have to go on the road to deal with Clemson and Florida. Just assume two losses there, and then a few more among the big battles against Boise State, at Virginia, NC State, Syracuse and Miami, and be afraid of trips to Boston College and Wake Forest.
If and when Florida State becomes Florida State again, this is a 10-2 schedule with a realistic hope of splitting those showdowns against the Tigers and Gators. But for this team, starting to look the part, building it back up, and getting everything in place for a stronger Year Three under Taggart is the most likely step.
But being a ten-win program again would be just fine, too.

The transition at head coach from Scott Frost to Josh Heupel was a seamless one for UCF, as the Knights capped the 2018 season with a 12-1 mark and a trip to the Fiesta Bowl. Heupel's second year features more question marks than his debut, but UCF is Athlon's pick to rank as the top Group of 5 team once again. With McKenzie Milton sidelined for 2019, there will be another quarterback at the helm of an offense loaded with skill talent. The defense had issues against the run last season and features significant concerns in the trenches going into the fall. However, the secondary is set with three returning starters, including All-America candidate Richie Grant. Provided Wimbush or Mack steps up and eases the transition under center, UCF should earn its third consecutive trip to a New Year's Six bowl.
