Alcantara put a positive spin on his first full big league season by posting a 2.73 ERA during his final 10 starts of 2019. The 24-year-old All-Star capped that stretch with his seventh quality start on Sept. 29, when he allowed one run in six innings of a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia. Alcantara sports a 3-1 record with a 2.81 ERA in four career starts versus the Phillies while holding the club to a rail-thin .130 batting average.
Many pitchers greedily would accept Nola's last season as a successful one, but it was a decided step back for the 27-year-old after he finished third in the NL Cy Young voting in 2018. Nola slowly has worked out the kinks this summer after his start to training camp was delayed when he came in contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus. Brian Anderson is 7-for-20 in his young career versus Nola, who fell to 3-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 13 career meetings with Miami after losing a pair of hard-luck decisions in three starts last season.
The Marlins are 7-16 in the last 23 meetings in Philadelphia.
