Sports Betting Beat: Michigan Cracks Top 3

Sports betting operators in the state of Michigan reported a total handle of $359.5 million and gross sports betting receipts of $32.3 million for the month, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

This allowed Michigan to crack the top 3 of all sports betting states, only after Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Illinois risks losing some of its gains as the state once again requires residents and visitors to register in-person now that lockdowns and business closures brought on by the global pandemic are beginning to recede.

Michigan also allowed those in the state to place bets on the red hot Wolverines throughout the NCAA Men's Basketball season and well into March Madness.  Illinois does not allow wagering on any state college.  Two of them made it into the NCAA Tournament.

Is Facebook Operating an Illegal Gambling Business?

According to three individuals, Facebook is allowing social casino advertising and casino apps on their social media platform.  As such, this can be interpretted as running an online gambling business. A lawsuit to this effect was filed last Friday in the Northern District of California.

Furthermore, the lawsuit states that Facebook is participating in an “illegal internet gambling enterprise. Even though they do not actually have their own gambling software and platform, they are profiting from it. In fact, the lawsuit says they are earning 30% commission from the net losses of real-money gamblers from their site.
