The New England Patriots now seem to be aware that they may need some help in the secondary following the trade of Stephon Gilmore to the Carolina Panthers. The trade of the celebrated cornerback left the New England Patriots in a bad state, even with star starters J.C Jackson and Jalen Mills.

On 14th Oct 2021, the New England Patriots, in a presser, insisted that they were fully aware of the weak defensive backfield and that efforts were being put to ensure they had the best defense before the Sunday game.

The legendary agent Drew Rosenhaus who represents numerous NFL players, including Poole, pointed out that his client was in town for a planned workout with the New England Patriots in preparation for the awaited game against New York Jets, his former team.

In the history of the National Football League, players from different teams have previously worked out with other teams on a friendly basis without necessarily awaiting signing.

Brain Poole working out with the New England Patriots does not indicate that he will be signed in to the team.

However, it remains clear that the decision to host Brian Poole is an indication that the New England Patriots team is keen to ensure they have a strong cornerback in their upcoming scheduled games. The presence of a strong team is always one of the things that influence sports betting in ct and beyond.

Brian Poole History

Brian Poole was born on October 20, 1992, and has had a successful career dating back from high school.

High School Career

Brian completed his high school studies in 2012 at the Southeast High School in Bradenton, Florida. During this time, he played for the southeast varsity team, where he showed great talent, skill, and love for Football which earned him a chance to play for the University of Florida under coach Will Muschamp.

College Career

Brian was an active player for the Gators from 2012–2015. Poole had a record of three tackles in the 2012 season. In the following season, Poole recorded an impressive thirty-two tackles. In the 2014 season, the celebrated cornerback recorded forty-five tackles with one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, four interceptions, and three tackles for loss. Brian had 40 total tackles in the following season, with five sacks, 15 tackles-for-loss, one fumble recovery, and five forced fumbles.

NFL Career

Atlanta Falcons

Brian began his professional NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons. The team signed him on the 5th of May 2016 as a free agent under a three-year contract. The $1.62 million contract was inclusive of a  $3,500 signing bonus.

Brian had received multiple offers from many NFL teams, including Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Los Angeles Rams. Due to his past relationship with coach Dan Quinn, Poole decided to settle for the Atlanta Falcons though it didn’t have the highest offer.

Poole faced stiff competition from Jordan Sefton, Devonte Johnson, David Mims, C.J Goodwin, Akeem King, and DeMarcus Van Dyke for a roster spot in the training camp. He was given nickel coverage duties at the end of the training camp after becoming the third cornerback.

As a rookie, Brian played nine starts in all sixteen games in that season. Brian recorded one interception, ten defended passes, and fifty-nine tackles in the season. Brian played in all three games of the postseason, making a start in two of the games.

In the  2017 season, Brian made three starts in the fifteen games he played. He recorded four defended passes and sixty-three tackles.

In the 2018 season, Poole made three starts in sixteen games. He also recorded three sacks and three interceptions, the highest in his career.

New York Jets

On March 15, 2019, Poole was signed by the New York Jets in a $3.5 million contract. After only two weeks in the team, Brian intercepted Derek Carrs pass and returned it, making a fifteen-yard touchdown. The match against Oakland Raiders ended  34–3  to the advantage of the New York Jets.

After suffering knee and shoulder injuries in week nine, Poole was placed on an injured reserve. He later resigned from the New York Jets on March 21, 2020.

New Orleans Saints

Poole was signed with the New Orleans Saints on July 25, 2021, under a one-year contract. He was later released on October 12 after being placed on injured reserve on August 24, 2021.

Looking at Poole’s history, the cornerback is well suited for playing out of the slot. The Patriots are, however, satisfied with Jonathan Jones, who currently plays in the position. Poole is, however, expected to play this position as Jones may have left the game against Dallas Cowboys with a rib injury. Jones was also not among the players who practiced on Wednesday.

Joejuan Williams, the team’s second-round draft choice, has not appeared in the team’s press coverages. This is mainly because of his poor performance in the match against Houston Texans. Shaun Wade, who is new to the team, has shown great potential but has missed two weeks of training due to an injury. Justin Bethel has also performed well for the team, but his main issue is that his performance is mainly based on special teams. Elijah Benton, Sean Davis, and D Angelo Ross are still options through the practice squad.

A perfect defensive back, Myles Bryant was promoted to the active router title from the practice squad. For the two seasons that he has played for the patriots, Bryant has been an effective defender. Brian Poole and Myles Bryant’s combination could help the team build the best defensive backfield.

Bill Belichick, who is the current Patriots coach, has praised Brian Poole as a versatile player. The latter has a lot of experience handling different situations in different games.

The New England Patriots have concluded that to come out of their 2-4 record, they need to add quality players to the critical positions in the team. Poole is among the best solutions for the team as acquiring him is cost-effective and quick.

Everyone is eagerly waiting to see if Poole will rock the Patriot jersey on Sunday and face it off with his former team.
