US Ambassador to Australia Not Happy With Conroy

The US ambassador to Australia Jeff Bleich has criticised the Rudd government's plan to filter the internet, saying the same goals can be achieved without censorship.

The federal government's $128.8 million Cyber Safety policy includes forcing ISPs to block access to certain websites and blacklist offensive material. Legislation to enable the scheme is set to be introduced this year.

On ABC's Q&A program last night, Mr Bleich said the "internet has to be free" and that there were other means of combating nasty content such as child pornography.

Alan Davidson, director of United States public policy for Google, told a joint Congressional panel that the United States should consider witholding development aid for countries that restrict certain Web sites. He said censorship had become more than a human rights issue and was hurting profit for foreign companies that rely on the Internet to reach customers.

Online Gambling Would Welcome Rush Limbaugh to Costa Rica

Radio host Rush Limbaugh has suggested that should President Obama's health plan sail through Congress, he will pack up his things and move to Costa Rica.

Limbaugh has chosen the perfect destination.  The online gambling industry set up shop in this Central American paradise during the mid-1990's.  Since that time operators have gone on to opening their own restaurants and constructing office buildings.  Limbaugh won't have any difficulty broadcasting his radio show out of CR either with all those enormous satellite dishes sitting on the properties of sportsbooks.
