With Ben Roethlisburger retired after 17 great years, everybody is dying to know who will be named the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.  It doesn't look like much of a battle though, at least not as of August 14.

Steelers Starting Quarterback in Week 1

Mitchell Trubisky -1000

Kenny Pickett +550 pays $55 for every $10 bet.

The Steelers signed Mitchell Trubisky as a free agent and then spent their first-round draft pick on Kenny Pickett.

“We were getting hammered on Trubisky as the starter all week so we moved aggressively, going from -250 to -700,” Adam Burns, BetOnline.ag Props Director, said. “Even though Pickett had a solid game and the fans loved him, our betting action suggests we’ll see Trubisky under center in the opener.”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin noted that Pickett is certainly in the mix.

"He certainly has a chance [to be our Week 1 starter]," Tomlin said.  "I agree with that sentiment of his readiness from a professional perspective."

He went on to explain why the Steelers selected Pickett.

"It was two things that really attracted us to him from a floor standpoint," Tomlin said. "We thought he had pro-level anticipation. We thought he had pro-level accuracy. Often times, those are two variables that really require a lot of adjustment from a quarterbacking standpoint. We felt he came ready-made in those ways. Hopefully that's an asset to him in terms of being able to compete and being ready, if his performance dictates it."

Trubisky started the Steelers first preseason game Saturday, completing 4-of-7 passes for 63 yards and one touchdown.

He also demonstrated great mobility at center.

It was Pickett’s game-winning drive that helped the Steelers beat Seahawks however.

Pickett, the former University of Pittsburgh standout, played the second half and finished 13 of 15 for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

The rookie expressed how elated he was with the crowd cheering him on.

“It was an incredible feeling," he said. "It was really cool. It was special.”

Pittsburgh ranks among the bottom ten teams in terms of Super Bowl 2023 odds.  There regular win total was set at 7.5.
