The Colorado Buffaloes will host the USC Trojans on Thursday night in a huge Pac-12 battle. The Pac-12 Conference has taken a beating over recent years about the lack of conference strength, but both of these teams are having great years. Colorado is trying to stay atop the conference standings, while USC is trying to play their way into the mix. This game will play a huge role in conference tournament playoff seeds, as well as NCAA Tournament seeds in March.

Colorado comes into this game with a conference record of 9-4, and they are in first place at the moment. The Buffaloes have won four of their last five games, and they are 20-6 overall this season. USC comes into this game with a record of 19-7, including an 8-5 record in Pac-12 Conference play. The Trojans can climb into a first place tie with a road win against the Colorado Buffaloes. Colorado blew out USC by a score of 78-57 earlier this season, and they are looking for a season sweep.

Colorado Can Really Defend

The Colorado Buffaloes were expected to be a much improved team this season, but they have surpassed everyone’s expectations en route to a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Defense has been the biggest reason for this turnaround, and the Buffaloes are allowing just 62.2 points per game. Colorado held Oregon State to just 47 points in their most recent game, and they could put up a low number in this one.

Colorado is scoring 72 points per game this season, but they won’t blow anyone away with their offense. The Buffaloes are a solid team that is led by veterans, and they have three different players averaging double figures. McKinley Wright leads the team with 13.6 points per game, and D’Shawn Schwartz is one of the best shooters in the league.

USC Has Plenty of Talent

The USC Trojans might be one of the most talented teams in the Pac-12 Conference, but they are also extremely young. USC comes into this game averaging 71.8 points per game, but they don’t always score with consistency. The Trojans have been solid on the defensive end of the floor, but they are allowing over 66 points per game. USC will need to be great on both ends to win this game.

USC also has three players that are averaging double-figures this season, but they aren’t as deep as the Colorado Buffaloes. The Trojans play just seven players seven minutes a game, and that can be a problem in a tough road environment. Onyeka Okongwu leads the team with 16 points per game to go along with 8.9 rebounds per game. Okongwu is going to need to have a monster game to win this game, but he also needs some help from his teammates.

Colorado Picks Up Impressive Pac-12 Victory

The Pac-12 Conference is one of the most underrated leagues in the country this season, and there are some sneaky good teams. USC and Colorado are two teams that can make a run in the NCAA Tournament, but they still have their sights set on winning the conference first.

USC has some elite talent this season, and that talent will be on full display in this game. The problem for the Trojans is that Colorado can really defend, and they are going to put up a low number in this game. The Buffaloes need a big time home win, and they get it on Thursday night.
