The Thursday Night Football lineup has been shockingly good so far this season with several close games. The Week 5 affair between NFC West contenders Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks figures to follow the trend. The division is the most competitive in the NFL with every team at or above .500. Seattle got back to the breakeven point with last week’s road win over San Francisco while the Rams dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten with a loss to Arizona. Oddsmakers have the Rams bouncing back on a short week pegging the visitors as a slight 1.5-point favorite on the opening NFL betting line.

Odds Analysis

Despite the outcome of last week’s games the Rams got some early support pushing the line up a full point to LA -2.5. The Rams were gouged last week by the Cards, 37-20, as a 3.5-point favorite on the closing line dropping them to 2-2 ATS. And the Rams hit the road for just the second time this season. They posted a comeback 27-24 win at Indy in Week 2, though they failed to cover in that one. LA has cashed the OVER in all four games and six straight dating back to last postseason. Action on the OVER pushed the total to 55 after hitting the board at 53.5. The current total would match the highest in the previous 30 meetings between the clubs.

Los Angeles Rams

Matthew Stafford has revitalized the offense, but the defense has been a mess this year and needs to clean up its act. It shouldn’t be too much to ask since the group topped the NFL in fewest points and yards allowed last season and the key figures are all back. One thing that is missing is coordinator Brandon Staley, who has the Chargers off to a fine start. Arizona scored on seven of its nine full possessions last week and the Rams allowed 465 total yards in the 37-20 setback. Over the last two games opponents have amassed 961 yards and 61 points.

The Rams had a hard time containing Kyler Murray and focusing on his passing exploits left them vulnerable to the run. LA allowed 216 yards on the ground to Arizona. Seattle’s ground game has been average this season, but so was Arizona’s. And the Rams will have to find a way to stop Russell Wilson, who was Murray before Murray entered the NFL.

The offense couldn’t pick up the guys on the other side of the football against the Cards. Stafford had a nice start to his Rams career but suffered through his worst game of the season completing 26 of 41 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. A pair of first half turnovers led to Arizona touchdowns putting the Rams in a hole they couldn’t climb out of.

Seattle Seahawks

It wasn’t the prettiest game but it was a win, and the Seahawks avoided their first three-game losing streak in a decade with their outright 28-21 win as a 2.5-point dog in San Francisco. After playing three of their first four games on the road Seattle gets some home cooking with arguably the best home field advantage in the NFL. They still have to play the game, though. The Seahawks were upset at home by Tennessee, 33-30, in Week 2.

While the Rams have struggled on defense Seattle’s offense sputtered last week, so something’s gotta give on Thursday. The Seahawks went three-and-out on their first five drives and didn’t pick up a first down until late in the first half. With Wilson running the show you can never count the Seahawks out, and their defense held tight giving Russ a chance to work his magic. He threw for only 149 yards with two of his 16 completions going for scores. Wilson also scored on a 16-yard scamper and remains one of the most elusive QBs in the game.

Seattle did just enough on offense to eke out a win last week and they came up with big plays on defense and special teams. Forcing a fumble on a kickoff, the Seahawks scored a few plays later upping their advantage to 21-7. They also held the Niners to just 2 of 14 on third down.

Bet Rams at Seahawks at BookMaker.eu

Keeping the game tight gives Seattle a better chance at winning. They played rope-a-dope with the Niners last week and it paid off. I expect the Rams to be better defensively and the total is too high for my liking making the UNDER a smart play. You just can’t give up on the Seahawks even when they don’t look good, so I’m not. I’m backing the home team with the points.

NFL Score Prediction: Seahawks 27, Rams 24
