Teams battling for first-place in their respective divisions tangle on Monday Night Football when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Philadelphia Eagles. The door for Seattle to regain the top spot in the NFC West opened up when LA and Arizona both lost on Sunday. The Eagles, despite their 3-6-1 record can climb over both Washington and the Giants for the lead in the woeful NFC East. The Seahawks are getting a few important pieces back in the lineup ahead of this game with leading rusher Chris Carson expected to suit up. Seattle is currently a 6.5-point favorite on the NFL betting line with the total set at 49.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

Seattle hit the board as a 3.5-point favorite with a constant flow of action on the visitors causing a spike to -6.5. Both teams are battling for first place in their division, but it’s hardly a fair fight. Seattle broke a two-game losing streak taking out Arizona in its last game, covering the 3-point spread in a 28-21 decision. That game kicked off the Week 11 betting schedule on Thursday night giving the visitors and extended bye to prepare for this game. Seattle makes its third trip to Philly in the last year winning the other two meetings, including a playoff game, by the same 17-9 score while covering the spread both times. Overall the Seahawks are 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS. The Eagles are trying to end a two-game SU and ATS slide that’s seen them lose their grip on the division lead. Two of their three wins have come on home soil where they are 2-2-1 SU and 2-3 ATS.

Seattle Seahawks

Losing two straight and three of four had some in the Pacific Northwest anxious over the direction of the Seahawks. Pete Carroll stood firm telling everyone that the team would be fine once the injured players got back in the lineup. It also helped that Russell Wilson took better care of the football and Seattle stopped that funk with a 28-21 win over Arizona in Week 11. Now, if Wilson can continue to value the football, he has help on his side.

The ground game was bolstered by the return of Carlos Hyde in the Arizona game. Things look even better now that Carson is back to being a full participant in practice and “raring to go” according to Carroll. That should also help Wilson, who threw seven interceptions and turned the ball over 10 times in the three losses. Russ didn’t have spectacular numbers in the win over Arizona throwing for 197 yards, but he was efficient completing 23 of 28 with a pair of touchdowns and no turnovers. When he takes care of the football good things usually happen.

The Seahawks played perhaps their best games of the season defensively over the last two holding the explosive Rams and Cardinals to 44 combined points. That doesn’t sound impressive, but for a group that’s been gouged all year it’s special. Shaquill Griffin, one of the team’s top corners, is also expected to make his way back to the lineup bolstering a group that still ranks last in pass defense and total defense.

Philadelphia Eagles

There has been a development from Eagles camp. Jalen Hurts was spotted taking more reps with the first team offense during practice, which could signal a move toward a revamped offense. Doug Pederson has continually said Carson Wentz is the starter and he’ll likely be behind center for the opening series on Monday night. The move more than likely means an expanded role for Hurts in the offense, which has been limited to trick plays so far. Hurts has thrown just two passes completing them both for nine yards. He also has 56 yards on 12 rush attempts.

It’s obvious the offense needs a kick in the pants. The Eagles scored 17 points in each of the last two games and have been held to under 20 points four times. They rank in the bottom third in pass offense (209.0), total offense (330.1) and scoring (22.0). Wentz is having the worst season of his career leading the NFL with 14 interceptions and 18 total turnovers. He’s also been sacked a league-high 40 times and owns the third-worst passer rating among starters.

The offense could get some relief with Zach Ertz expected to play on Monday night. The Eagles will have to slow down Seattle’s ground game, which got better the last two weeks with Hyde and now Carson carrying the load. Philly allows over 133 rushing yards per game, which is the only flaw in the group. The Eagles do have third-most sacks in the NFL with 34 and will have to stop the run if they want to break a six-game SU and ATS home losing streak to Seattle.

The Eagles are good enough defensively to stay in this game. The play of Wentz, though, is a concern, and how he handles Hurts getting more reps will say a lot about the Eagles and Wentz. Whichever team wins the NFC East is in the playoffs and the Eagles control their own destiny. I just can’t trust any team from that division, which is why I’m backing the visitors.

NFL Score Prediction: Seattle 29, Philadelphia 17
