The Boys moved ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East with their Monday night victory over the Giants, their second straight after dropping three in a row. The Vikings remain a game behind the Packers in the NFC North after having their four-game win streak halted by the Chiefs. Dallas is 3-1 SU and ATS at home this season and opened as a 2.5-point favorite on the NFL betting line.

Odds Analysis

The Cowboys hit the board as a 2.5-point favorite with the line quickly wagered to -3 where it’s been stagnant since. The story for this matchup is with the total, which opened at 45.5 and has risen steadily to its current 48. With a majority of wagers backing the under, it looks as though sharps are expecting points with a Minnesota defense that has regressed. The Vikings are dogs for just the third time this season owning a 0-2 SU and ATS record in the previous two contests. In fact the Vikings are 0-6 SU and ATS in their last six games when getting points on the closing line.

Minnesota Vikings

Maybe the Vikings thought it would be easy, but it never is in the NFL. Going into Kansas City last week riding a four-game winning streak and facing the Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs, the Vikings succumbed, 26-23, on a pair of late field goals. The offense that was so wired in during the win streak shriveled and Kirk Cousins failed once again to get a fourth-quarter comeback win.

It was a tough loss to handle since the Packers also lost, leaving the Vikings a game behind for the division lead. And now Minnesota must contend with a much better Dallas defense without one of its top receiving threats. Adam Thielen was lost early after aggravating a hamstring injury and didn’t return. He’s doubtful to play this weekend leaving Cousins without his security blanket in the passing game.

The pitfalls on offense weren’t totally unexpected. After the Vikings ripped through the first three games of their win streak scoring an average of 36 points, they managed just 19 in a win over the hapless Redskins. Against a KC defense that allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 63 percent of their passes, Cousins connected on just half his throws for 220 yards. The Vikings averaged just 4.7 yards per play, nearly two yards per play fewer than their season average.

Dallas Cowboys

Can anyone figure out this Cowboys team? Three wins followed by three losses followed by two more wins has the Boys at the top of the NFC East, but their lead is precarious. Things are turning in their favor, though, after what Jason Garrett said was “one of the best games of the season” in beating the Giants on Monday night.

Overcoming an early deficit, the Cowboys imposed their will on both sides of the football, outscoring the G-Men 34-6 after falling behind 12-3 in the second quarter. And they did it in all three phases. “I just thought we started to play the way we wanted to play. We dominated up front. Zeke ran the ball really well. That’s certainly a part of us playing our best offensive football,” Garrett said. Elliott ran for 139 yards and Dak Prescott threw for 257 and three touchdowns

The Boys were pretty good on defense, too. They sacked Daniel Jones five times, held Saquon Barkley to 28 yards on 14 carries, forced three turnovers and limited the Giants to 271 total yards. Dallas covered the 6.5-point closing line for their second straight win and cover to improve to 5-3 SU and ATS. The Boys are 3-1 SU and ATS at home this year and now possess the top offense in the NFL averaging nearly 437 yards per game.

When Cousins is good, he’s really good. And when he’s bad, he’s awful. There doesn’t appear to be any middle-ground with the guy. He’s been good for the most part this season and the Vikings are in the thick of the NFC North race. But without Thielen and against an aggressive Dallas defense, I don’t think he can do enough. The Boys have an exciting offense and Amari Cooper is expected to play, giving Prescott another weapon and leaning me toward the home team cover.

NFL Score Prediction: Dallas 26, Minnesota 20
