The Los Angeles Lakers go for their second straight win over the Memphis Grizzlies and their fourth in a row overall when the clubs hook up in the second game of two straight in Memphis on Tuesday. A favorite to win their second straight O’Brien Trophy, the Lakers climbed into a three-way tie at the top of the Western Conference standings with their 108-94 win in the opener on Sunday. The Grizzlies are 1-2 since leading scorer Ja Morant went down with an ankle injury and they’ll have to navigate the next several weeks without last season’s Rookie of the Year.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

In order to accommodate a season during a global pandemic some scheduling adjustments were necessary leaving teams to play consecutive games against each other at the same venue. The Lakers are doing that twice during this road trip sweeping San Antonio in the first leg. They go for another sweep on Tuesday following their win on Sunday. The Lakers had the best road record in the West last season going 27-9, which included their designated “away” games inside the Florida bubble. They picked up right where they left off winning their first three going 2-1 ATS on the trail to start the new campaign. Overall they are 5-2 SU and 4-2 ATS after covering the 10-point line in Sunday’s 108-94 win. The Grizzlies have alternated losses and wins over their last five games so if things go according to plan they should win this game. That’s going to be difficult without Morant and Jaren Jackson. Memphis is 2-4 SU and ATS following its loss on Sunday.

Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James isn’t slowing down and neither are the Lakers, who go for their fourth straight win on Tuesday. James broke open a close game scoring LA’s first 10 points of the fourth quarter and finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in the 108-94 win. The Lakers aren’t all about James, though, which is why they are a favorite to win another NBA title. Anthony Davis chipped in with 17 points and nine boards and Montrezl Harrell had 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Lakers certainly have the offensive firepower with LeBron and AD at the top of the list. But like last season, they are able to shut down opponents. They’ve allowed an average of just over 101 points during their three-game winning streak and rank among the top eight in the NBA in scoring defense, field goal defense and three-point defense. That’s allowed the UNDER to cash in five straight games.

The Lakers have now won four of the last five games in the series after taking three of four last season before the shutdown. Playing as a favorite of at least 8-points in every game the Lakers are 3-2 ATS with all five games playing below the closing total. The only setback during that span came in Memphis last February when Morant scored 27 with 14 dimes. The Lakers won’t have to worry about him on Tuesday.

Memphis Grizzlies

The loss of Morant is a huge blow to the Griz. Losing your top scorer for any length of time is tough but even more so in a shortened season. Morant sustained an ankle injury in an overtime win over Brooklyn on Dec. 28. He led the team in scoring with 17.8 points per game last season and opened the new campaign with 44 points and was averaging over 26 points before the injury. In three games with Morant on the floor the Griz averaged 115.7 points. Without him they’re averaging just 103 points and were held to less than 100 points for the first time in Sunday’s loss.

The Griz are without another significant offensive contributor with Jackson on the shelf following offseason knee surgery. Jackson finished just behind Morant for the team scoring lead last season with 17.4 points per game. Memphis ranks in the bottom third of the league in scoring, field goal percentage and three-point percentage.

Without Morant and Jackson the Griz have relied on scoring by committee. Kyle Anderson led four players in double figures with 18 points on Sunday with Tyus Jones and Jonas Valanciunas scoring 14 apiece. They will need more from Dillon Brooks. Brooks was the third leading scorer last season and is averaging 17.5 points this year, but he was held to just nine points on 3 of 15 shooting in the first matchup.

Bet Lakers at Grizzlies at BookMaker.eu

Without Morant the Grizzlies lack a true “go-to” guy, and that’s problematic against a team that plays defense like the Lakers. And LA has too many weapons with LeBron, AD and Kyle Kuzma to name just a few. It will take an astonishing effort for the Griz to get the upset and I just don’t see that happening.

NBA Score Prediction: Lakers 112, Grizzlies 100
