NBA Betting – Denver Nuggets at Golden State Warriors

This might be the rare occasion when a team is happy to play the second game of a back-to-back. After scoring just eight points in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to Boston, the Denver Nuggets are right back at it taking on the Golden State Warriors in the second game of ESPN’s Monday night doubleheader. The Nuggets had their eight-game winning streak stopped, but they looked like a legitimate contender during the run, all coinciding with the acquisition of Aaron Gordon. The feisty Warriors are rested and coming off a big win over Houston that still has them in the Western Conference playoff picture.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

Odds had yet to surface at the time of this writing, but based on the records it’s safe to assume that the Nuggets will be a comfortable favorite. They are 34-19 and in the mix for a top-four seed in the Western Conference. They lead the Lakers by a game in the standings and are just 3.5 games behind Phoenix for the No. 2 seed. They were on a 6-1 ATS roll before failing to cover the last two outings. Sunday’s 105-87 setback was odd for a team that had been playing so well and I don’t anticipate the result having a lasting effect. While the Warriors are three games under .500 they’ve actually been a decent team in their own gym going 16-10 SU and 15-11 ATS. They have the most home victories of any current non-playoff team, so that’s something.

Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets had a potent offense before the acquisition of Gordon. They’ve been even better since swinging the deal. They had won eight in a row with Gordon making them even more of a threat in the West. He just complements a group that reached the conference finals last season and is 17-4 over its last 21 games. Five players average more than 10 points per game and the Nuggets rank among the top-5 in the NBA in scoring, field goal percentage and three-point percentage. That has allowed the OVER to go 31-22 in their 53 games.

The ringleader is Nikola Jokic, who is again a serious threat for the league’s MVP award. Jokic averages a double-double with team-bests of 26.2 points and 10.9 rebounds. He also tops the club averaging 8.8 assists. Jokic recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in Denver’s 114-104 home win over the Warriors in January. The Nuggets got their first payout against the Dubs in six games covering the 4.5-point spread in that game. And despite all the offensive talent on the floor when these teams meet, they’ve played below the closing total in two straight and four of the last five.

Golden State Warriors

With all the young pieces to go along with a veteran core, the Warriors were expected to push for a playoff spot. That’s exactly where they are at this point of the season, a few games off the pace with a possible play-in series in their future. There are still plenty of games to be played and the team suffered a potential big loss when No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman sustained what is believed to be a season-ending knee injury in Saturday’s win over Houston. Wiseman struggled at times this season but his ceiling is high, which is why he was picked second. Wiseman is averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in just over 21 minutes of run time.

The Warriors were without third-leading scorer Kelly Oubre Jr. on Saturday and he’s not expected to play on Monday due to a wrist injury. That leaves more scoring chances for Steph Curry, which shouldn’t be too big of a deal since he’s shouldered the load all season. Curry hit eight triples and scored 38 points in Saturday’s 125-109 win over Houston. It was his sixth straight game of 30 or more points and he’s averaging 36 points during that run. Opponents know what’s coming and they’re still powerless to stop Curry, who ranks second in the NBA with 29.9 points per game.

The good news for the Nuggets is that they get a chance to erase the stink of Sunday’s game. For a team as efficient as they are to score eight points in a quarter is mystifying. Heck it’s hard to do even if you’re trying. For that reason alone I’m backing the visitors. Oh, and without Wiseman to offer some resistance you can expect Jokic to have a big game. Curry will get his points, but there’s little after that. Even the homecourt won’t be enough to save the Warriors on Monday night.

NBA Score Prediction: Nuggets 117, Warriors 108
