NBA Betting – Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers

It’s the greatest rivalry in the NBA and one of the best in all of sports, and it gets renewed on Friday when the Boston Celtics visit the Los Angeles Lakers. Behind Anthony Davis and LeBron James, the Lakers tied the Celtics for the most titles in league history by capturing their 17th last season. Between them the teams have nearly half the championships the NBA has handed out. They’ve met a record 12 times in the championship series, but not since 2010. If the Lakers are healthy there’s a good chance they get back to the Finals. It’s going to be an uphill battle for the Celtics in the top-heavy Eastern Conference.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

If the Celtics are starting to come together they are doing it a good time. They can match their longest winning streak of the season by getting some revenge against the Lakers in the finale of a three-game road trip. Boston has won four straight and six of its last seven games going 4-2-1 ATS in that span. They beat Denver with an impressive fourth quarter stand to open the trip and followed with a 116-115 win at Portland while catching points in both games. The script is flipped with the Celtics hitting the board as a 6-point favorite. They are just 16-18 ATS when playing as a favorite. The Lakers are just treading water until their roster returns to full shape. And by that I mean getting AD and LeBron back on the floor. They’ve alternated wins and losses over the last eight games and they are 6-7 SU and ATS in the last 13 games since James was injured. On the bright side they ended the Eastern Conference portion of their seven-game road trip with a pair of wins in three games, including a 126-101 thumping of the Nets as a 11.5-point dog. They are 4-1 ATS in their last five games.

Boston Celtics

Before we start making claims that the Celtics are back, let’s remember that we’ve been down this road before. Back in January they put a season-long five-game winning streak together. They proceeded to lose their next three. They hadn’t won more than two games in a row until a four-game streak carried them into the All-Star break. They then dropped six of eight games after the restart. So forgive me if I’m not convinced the Celtics are a contender. Even a win over the depleted Lakers won’t prove much. But it will help Boston’s chances of securing a higher seed in the East.

There is reason to believe the Celtics are hitting their stride now that the core group is back and playing together. Kemba Walker missed the start of the campaign recovering from knee surgery and Marcus Smart also was out for a chunk of time due to injury. Jaysom Tatum was a COVID casualty a month ago and says he’s just now feeling close to 100 percent. His recent play reflects that. Tatum dropped 53 on the Wolves last week and had 32 points against Portland on Tuesday. “I don’t think the record shows what kind of team we are. I like the way we’re playing,” he said.

Los Angeles Lakers

It doesn’t matter to the Lakers where they finish in the Western Conference standings as long as it’s not outside the top eight. And unless something drastic happens that’s not going to be the case. So, while they wait for their superstars to recuperate the games will be played. And the Lakers have been about as average a team as any. Over their last 30 games they are 15-15 SU, a run that started a few games before Davis was injured. When James went down a month later, the Lakers lost their top two scorers and the offense has suffered.

They’ve scored 101 points or less in nine of their last 14 games that includes the contest James was hurt. For the season they average 109.8 points, the third lowest mark in the Western Conference. Thankfully they’ve had a top defense all season that’s allowed them to win games. The Lakers are second in points allowed and three-point defense and rank sixth in the NBA in overall field goal percentage. They held Boston to 95 points while pulling out a 1-point victory in the Garden on Jan. 30.

Bet Celtics at Lakers at BookMaker.eu

Oddsmakers have caught on to the Lakers posting totals at ridiculously low numbers over the last several games. Boston is playing well and Tatum is leading the charge. His mates are catching on and the team is on a roll. It’s going to be tough for the depleted Lakers to keep up. I’m backing the visitors and expecting them to score enough points to cash the OVER in this one.

NBA Score Prediction: Celtics 111, Lakers 103

The Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers will both be playing after the regular season concludes. We just don’t know if they’ll be in the top-six or in the play-in tournament. LA and Portland are two of three teams vying for the final two playoff spots with the club missing out being relegated to the play-in.
