Maryland Terrapins at Wisconsin Badgers Betting Pick

It’s no secret that road games in the Big 10 have proven to be a nightmare proposition for the ranked teams within the conference. So far this year, top 25-ranked Big 10 teams feature a stunning 1-8 record on the road in conference play. On Tuesday night, the Maryland Terrapins will be searching to improve on that mark on behalf of the Big 10, as well as their own 0-3 mark in true road games, when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison.

Badgers Hoping for More Consistency

Oddly enough, the Badgers have been a bit of an outlier in terms of road success in Big 10 clashes so far this season. In an odd twist of fate, it’s the home games Wisconsin has had trouble winning this season. The Badgers will need that to change against the 12th-ranked Terps on their home court on Tuesday.

Wisconsin’s past two victories have come against 5th-ranked Ohio State and 20th-ranked Penn State, both on the road. Wedged in-between those two impressive showings was a one-point home loss to an inconsistent Illinois squad. Wisconsin’s poor losses have largely come during the first month of the season, as the Badgers enter Tuesday night’s conference clash as winners of five of their last six.

The Badgers are placed on the offensive end by forward Nate Reuvers and his 13.7 points per game. For a team averaging just 67.9 points as a team, only guard Kobe King and his 10.9 points per contest are also in double digits in the scoring department. The defensive side of the ball is where Wisconsin excels, as the Badgers allow just 60.2 points per contest, third best in the conference and 19th-lowest in the country.

While there is some concern about Wisconsin’s ability to consistently play at a high level, it’s certainly seemed like they’ve played to the best of their availabilities against the toughest of opponents. With a talented Maryland team coming to Madison, the Badgers will have another opportunity to flex their muscles and take down another ranked conference foe.

Terps Aim to End Road Woes

The Terrapins are entering Tuesday night’s matchup following their worst performance of the year, a 67-49 lambasting by the unranked Iowa Hawkeyes. And what better way to forget about that embarrassment in Iowa City than by hitting the road for another difficult conference match-up with one of the countries top defenses? All sarcasm aside, this is a tricky match-up for the Terrapins to get back on track.

Senior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. is also looking to bounce back, coming off his worst game of the season against the stingy Hawkeyes defense. Shooting a paltry 20% from the floor and putting together a season-worst two made field goal attempts, Cowan Jr. will surely need to improve upon his nine-point effort from Friday in order to get his team back in the win column. Coming off a game where the Terrapins gave up 44 rebounds, including 15 on the offensive end, Maryland will have to be more dominant on the boards to get their offense going. The Terrapins average 41.5 boards per game, compared to just 34.6 for Wisconsin, making this a key point of emphasis for Maryland. With the Terps shooting a paltry 41.4% from the floor on the season, good for 295th in the country, every possession matters on the offensive end.

Betting Pick

Until Maryland, and really the entire Big 10, prove that they can win conference games on the road, it’s difficult to believe this Terps team will be the team to change this trend. Combine the league’s road struggles with Maryland’s inconsistencies, and Wisconsin looks like the safe pick on Tuesday night. I’ll take the Badgers by double digits in a game that’s close for a half until Wisconsin pulls away late. Bet the Badgers at www.RealBookies.com our favorite pay per head bookie site.
