The line on the Michigan State vs. Miami game had been sitting on Hurricanes -6.5 with an occasional move to -6 or -7, though the trend Thursday was towards the 6 (BetOnline was flirting more with the 7).  Action appeared to be heavy on the Spartans early on from what we can tell, as much as 70%.  We would emphasize that the public is betting heavy on the dog here.

Miami is ranked No. 24 despite a 1-1 record.  MSU will come into this one with a 2-0 record. The Canes are yet to cover the spread.

The loss was against Alabama but it was a bad one, 44-13.  They just barely squeaked by a good App State team.

The Hurricanes have some issues, including their questionable depth behind running back Cam'Ron Harris. Backup Donald Chaney Jr. was ruled out for the season on Monday due to a right knee injury. Jaylan Knighton, Miami's other proven backup, has to serve two more games of a suspension for violating team rules.

Touted freshmen Thaddius Franklin Jr. and Cody Brown are expected to get carries on Saturday. Brown, so far, is running with the second team.

"It's not just as easy as running the ball. You've got pass protection involved," Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said. "We're working hard to get them ready."

Michigan State's wins were against Northwestern and Youngstown, so this will be their first big test of the season.  Granted these were statement victories in which they covered in one game and pushed in the other.  The Spartans front line has been especially impressive.

No wonder so much backing is on Michigan State this week.

That being said, Gambling911.com has a line of Miami -8.5 here.  There is actually an underlay.

The line on this game had been as high as -7 at some of the sharper books, but they had taken it down to -6.5 or even -6 leading into Saturday.  This is a response to the action as books look to get more action on Miami but a move back up to -7 could suggest an opinion on the Canes.  It would not be surprising to see Miami cover here.

We will be on Miami -6.5
