Could Kyrie Irving Really Be About to Leave the Brooklyn Nets for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Kyrie Irving’s instantly forgettable season in 2021-22 had very little to do with his displays on the basketball court and more about his vaccination status. The 30-year-old was banned from taking part in home games due to regulations in New York and was pushed into the shadows by the organization as a result.

He ended up playing just 29 regular season games but still posted his joint best points per game stats as the Nets duly limped out of the play-off running with a first-round loss to the Boston Celtics.

The Nets were a side that was heavily backed in the betting last season, only to get nowhere close to the NBA finals, and sports bettors in the state might want to check out any crucial NY sports betting bonuses that could make any such bet all the more rewarding. The question is, will Irving be at the Barclays Center to help you win that bet?

Well, a big reason that talk of Irving moving across the country to take up residence in California and the Los Angeles Lakers relates to the future of Russell Westbrook, who endured a tough debut season at the Crypto.com Arena.

As a result of his poor displays and the failure of the team as a whole, the Lakers are reportedly looking to offload Westbrook, and the franchise’s big stars, namely Lebron James and Anthony Davis, are keen on enticing Irving to fill the potentially vacant spot left by his departure.

There is already speculation that the Nets are likely to see Kevin Durant leave, and the additional exit of Irving could hit the team hard, and any deal they do consider may well not include Westbrook, not least as Steve Nash may see such a deal as a real headache.

The Nets want two first-round picks as part of any potential Irving deal, but the Lakers apparently are only considering one pick in the trade, which is why there is something of a stalemate, according to multiple reports.

Irving moved to the Nets in July 2019 and duly hit 50 points on his debut that October, becoming the first player ever in the NBA to have such an impact in their first game with a new team. In 2020-21 he played a key part in getting the Nets to the Conference Semi-finals, but he sprained an ankle in game four before Brooklyn then lost out to eventual winners, the Milwaukee Bucks, in game seven.

Last year was a disastrous one because of his COVID vaccination status, but he returned to help the Nets to the play-offs, where he ended up getting fined for profane gestures aimed at the Boston crowd.

Kyrie Irving won an NBA title in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, alongside Lebron, and is a seven-time NBA All-Star pick and, as such, is a high-quality player who will have no shortage of offers if he does find that his future is not with the Nets.
