College Football – Week 4 Wise Guy Picks 2019

Follow the money. That’s the easiest thing to do when placing a bet on the college football betting line. Paying attention to line movement and the handle can put some extra shekels in your account. We’ve reached a point in the 2019 college football season where we have a clear vision on most teams. That doesn’t make handicapping games any easier so why not pay attention to the wise guys. Offshore sportsbooks pay close attention to wise guys and for good reason. They know what they’re doing and can influence a betting line in any sport. And when wise guys make a wager the books are watching.  *This article courtesy of Bookmaker

We were closely watching a few games last week where sharp action impacted the betting line. And sure enough the wise guys were on the money. And eventually in the money with all three picks paying out. Sharp money backed Ohio State moving the line 3.5-points in its game with Indiana. No matter, the Buckeyes still won by 41 for an easy cover. While the rest of the college football world is slow to accept UCF as a major player, wise guys know what’s going on. Backing the Knights for their tilt with Stanford proved profitable with UCF covering the line that jumped to -9. Oklahoma also had an easy cover in its 48-14 thrashing of hapless UCLA.

Week 4 offers up three big-time matchups between ranked teams along with a host of other betting options. Let’s take a look at a few games on the Week 4 schedule where sharps have influenced the line. And remember, BookMaker will have spreads and totals for every FBS matchup during the 2019 season. College Football Week 4 Wise Guy Picks

LSU ( -23, 62.5 ) at Vanderbilt, Saturday, Sept. 21, 12 p.m. ET

Wise guys not only influence the spread, they also can affect the over/under with their action. And that appears to be the case in this matchup. The total hit the board at 57 and after a quick decline to 56 skyrocketed into the 60s. Surprisingly, a high percentage of the early public money backed the under, so an increase was a clear sign that sharps were working the total. LSU’s new up-tempo, spread offense is gaining traction.

If you’re looking for a sleeper pick in the Heisman race there’s still time to grab Joe Burrow before it’s too late. In three games he’s thrown for 1,122 yards and 11 touchdowns leading the Tigers to 55 points per game and 3-0 mark on the over. The offensive production in Baton Rouge is quite a change from the Les Miles punishing ground attack days. LSU dropped 65 on Northwestern State last week and hasn’t scored fewer than 45 points in a game this season. Vandy’s defense has struggled at the outset giving up 512 yards and 36 points.

Notre Dame at Georgia ( -14 ), Saturday, Sept. 21, 8 p.m. ET

The line for this game between two highly ranked teams is unusual. We would expect a smaller spread when the No. 3 and No. 7 teams in the country hook up, but not here. Georgia opened -11 and was scooped up early pushing the line to -14. The Dogs are getting around 60 percent of the early action, but that wouldn’t necessitate a 3-point jump. Like I said in previous articles, squares don’t typically move the line and a field goal spike is significant. When wise guys talk, books listen.

This is the first real test for either side. Georgia blasted Vanderbilt, Murray State and Arkansas State by a combined score of 148-23. Notre Dame is coming off a 66-14 drubbing of New Mexico and visits Athens for the first time. Georgia felt slighted by the CFP selection committee last year and lost out on a playoff berth to the Irish. Added incentive to thoroughly destroy the opponent is likely what led to the jump. It could also be Georgia’s well-rounded club that features a defense bent on stopping Ian Book and the Irish offense.

Michigan State at Northwestern, Saturday, Sept. 21, 12 p.m. ET

It doesn’t have to be a marquee game that attracts wise guys. Wherever there’s value is where you’ll find sharp money. And it’s plainly evident in this matchup. The Spartans opened -6 on the college football betting line and with Northwestern getting over 60 percent of the early action, the line increased, clear evidence that wise guys are backing the Spartans.

Northwestern is nowhere near the club that won the Big Ten West last year, but the Wildcats are a gritty team and Sparty is coming off a disastrous effort in a home loss to Arizona State. Too many times bettors are swayed by what took place the week before and you can’t do that in order to make a smart wager. Wise guys are all over MSU pushing the line to -9.
