Syracuse vs. UNC Game Preview

(Field Level Media) - North Carolina's preparations for the season included a five-day break in the latter part of August due to campus-wide issues with the coronavirus.

But 19 days after the No. 18 Tar Heels resumed practice, they open the regular season with an ACC game against Syracuse on Saturday at Chapel Hill, N.C.

The ACC is one of three Power 5 conferences that decided to go ahead with a season. North Carolina coach Mack Brown and Syracuse counterpart Dino Babers know the commencement of this campaign is highly atypical.  Bet This One Here Now

Louisiana vs. Iowa State Preview

(Field Level Media) - The atmosphere will be nowhere near normal for a season opener with no fans in the stands when No. 23 Iowa State plays host to Louisiana on Saturday in a nonconference game at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.

"It will definitely be unique," Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said.

Nor does it figure to be the kind of typical mismatch one would expect from a contest pitting a Big 12 contender like the Cyclones against a Group of Five conference opponent like the Ragin' Cajuns.

Campbell has a veteran crew back from a 7-6 team that very easily could have been a 10-game winner in 2019 with three of the losses (Iowa, Baylor, Oklahoma) coming by a combined four points.

Junior quarterback Brock Purdy (3,982 passing yards) leads an offense that ranked second in 2019 in the pass-happy Big 12 with an average of 311.3 yards per game through the air. Running back Breece Hall rushed for 897 yards as a freshman, averaging just over 100 yards a game over his last eight outings.

Louisiana is coming off an 11-3 season and returns three huge weapons -- quarterback Levi Lewis and running backs Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas. Lewis passed for 3,050 yards last season while Mitchell rushed for 1,147 yards and Ragas had 820.  Bet This One Here Now

Duke vs. Notre Dame Preview

(SI.com - Bryan Driskell) - Notre Dame has talented advantages all over the field, but I won't be surprised if the Irish struggle a bit out of the gate due to the erratic offseason that ND and every other program has gone through.

Once the Irish work out the kinks I expect them to roll. Notre Dame pounded Duke last season, and they didn't really play that great. The Irish simply out-talented and out-hit Duke, and if this team is going to be as good as we all think, they should physically beat up Duke once against.

I expect both lines to exert their will on the Blue Devils, and the Irish pull away in the second half for the impressive victory.  Bet This One Here Now

Clemson vs. Wake Forest

(Field Level Media) - Clemson enters the season with the No. 1 national ranking, just happy to have a chance to see if it is really the best team.

"I think (it's) just a deeper appreciation that we all have (for the game) and do what we do," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. "... This is what we love to do. And we're doing it the safest possible way that we can."

With the backdrop of playing during the coronavirus pandemic, the Tigers begin the quest to showcase their talent on the road against Wake Forest on Saturday night at newly named Truist Field in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"We want to play," Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. "We want to do what we love, have some normalcy."  Bet This One Here Now
