The Los Angeles Clippers and DraftKings announced today a partnership that makes DraftKings the official daily fantasy sports partner of the Los Angeles Clippers. The agreement marks the team’s first-ever partnership with a one-day fantasy sports website. DraftKings is the largest U.S.-based provider of daily fantasy sports contests across a broad range of professional and college sports, including basketball.

Iowa Fantasy Sports Bill Gets Approval From State Senate

In the wake of the fantasy sports phenomenon gripping the U.S., a bill to legal the activity in Iowa has been given the green light in the State Senate.  Iowa casinos could also offer fantasy sports with cash payoffs under some circumstances.

Senate Study Bill 1068 was approved by the Senate State Government Committee on a voice vote with only one dissent.

PA Teacher Stole Nearly $200K From Union to Fuel Gambling Addiction

GIBSONIA, Pa. (Associated Press) -- A business teacher has been charged with stealing $175,000 he blew on lottery tickets and at casinos while serving as treasurer of his union at suburban Pittsburgh school district.

Defense attorney Christopher Thomas says 44-year-old Edward Maritz Jr. is taking responsibility for the crimes because his "conscience caught up to him."

Maritz is on sabbatical from the Pine-Richland School District.

Campaign for Liberty Strongly Opposes Online Gambling Ban

SPRINGFIELD, Virginia- Today, Campaign for Liberty issued the following statement from C4L President John Tate strongly opposing the reintroduction of the “Restoration of America’s Wire Act” (RAWA) by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT).  This legislation would institute a federal ban on online gambling and trample on the United States Constitution, which leaves the states with the authority to regulate matters not specifically given to the federal government.

Iowa Moves Closer to Legalizing Fantasy Sports

Iowa, a state that has dabbled with the notion of legalizing online gambling including poker, has moved to legalize Fantasy sports.

While Fantasy Sports are exempt under federal legislation banning most other forms of online gambling, some individuals states have enacted their own laws that make engaging in such contests with cash prizes illegal, Iowa being one of them.

Minnesota Man Wins $300,000 Playing Daily Fantasy Sports

Jake Sanders, 38, of Edina, Minnesota, recently won $300,000 from the Daily Fantasy Sports site FanDuel.com.  And that was by finishing in 4th place!

Sanders was a qualifier for a FanDuel $2 million dollar event in Las Vegas during week 15 of the NFL season.  One player picking up yardage in the final seconds of a Jets/Titans game reduced Sanders earnings by $200,000 from $500,000.

Nevada Casino Winnings Drop to $11 Billion in 2014

LAS VEGAS — (Associated Press) - Nevada's slow and steady gambling winning streak ended in 2014 with $11 billion captured behind casino cages, down 1.1 percent from a year ago.

The places where the winnings dropped or didn't is what interested David Schwartz, the director of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Center for Gaming Research.

The Las Vegas Strip's casinos were down 16.4 percent in December to $555 million and 2.1 percent for the year to $6.4 billion, according to Gaming Control Board statistics released Friday.
