Vegas The Real Winner With Mayweather-Canelo Fight: Massive Handle

Las Vegas hotels and restaurants were filled and taxis were hard to find as the Mayweather-Canelo fight Saturday night proved one of Sin City’s biggest economic draws.

Many said they haven't seen buzz around an event like this since Tyson vs. Holyfield over 15 years ago, according to KTNV TV.
Boxing legend Bernard Hopkins told KTNV the line outside went around the corner of the building, "Not since fighting with Tyson have I seen this type of atmosphere."

French betting firm PMU has come under fire for poking fun at the assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy in a recent advertisement.

The ad in question features a 30-second clip of a cheering crowd awaiting the President’s motorcade.

New Jersey Casino Revenue Down Nearly 5 Percent

Atlantic City, NJ - (Associated Press) - Atlantic City’s casino revenue fell by nearly 5 percent in August, as gamblers won table games at a higher rate than usual.

The city’s 12 casinos took in $298.1 million, down 4.8 percent from August 2012.

Revenue from table games was $78.6 million, down 10.5 percent from a year ago. The state Division of Gaming Enforcement said the casinos fared worse at table games than they did a year ago.

Slot machine revenue was $219.5 million, down 2.6 percent.

Big Improvements Promised at Lock Poker: New VIP Program, More

Lock Poker operations head Eric Rizen has advised Gambling911.com that big news was upcoming for the 2nd most trafficked US-facing online poker room in the coming month.

Changes include an upgrade to the VIP program.  Other details were not immediately released.

Last month, Lock released a brand new affiliate program and added new online casino games.  They were also in the process of opening a new satellite office.

Curacao Fines Online Gambling Company for Operating Without a License

The Dutch Antilles island of Curacao has fined an online gambling operator $100,000 for failing to hold a gaming license.

The company, Global Stars, focuses primarily on the Dutch market where such activity is deemed illegal.

Jan Suyver, chairman of the Kansspelautoriteit, said that “companies offering online gambling now know they can be penalised because licences are yet to be granted, and consumers know that those who do so are not being supervised by the government.”

Macau Gambling Growth Up 17.6 Percent

(Reuters) - Gambling revenue in Macau rose 17.6 percent in August year-on-year, buoyed by a steady flow of wealthy Chinese punters to China's only legal casino hub.

August's revenue of 30.7 billion patacas ($3.88 billion) was the second strongest figure this year, according to government data released on Monday. Analysts had forecast August growth in the world's biggest gambling market to be up 17-19 percent.

A Portuguese colony until 1999, Macau's gambling revenues are closely twinned with China's economy as more than two-thirds of its visitors coming from the mainland.

Nevada Strip Gambling Drops 14 Percent in July

CARSON CITY, Nevada — Nevada gambling revenue dropped 8 percent in July, led by a 14.4 percent drop on the Las Vegas Strip that analysts Friday chalked up to a tough comparison to the same month the year before.

Casinos statewide won $925.7 million from gamblers in July, down from July 2012 when casinos surpassed the billion-dollar mark and posted a 17 percent increase. The "win" is what was left in casino coffers after gamblers wagered $11.5 billion. A breakdown shows $8.8 billion was plunked into slot and video machines, while $2.7 billion was bet on card and table games.

Palazzo Hotel-Casino Wants to Put End to Bestiality, Simulated Sex in Nightclub

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — It turns out that even in Sin City, some sins are hard to overlook.

The Palazzo hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip is trying to evict a 10-month-old nightclub for shows it says are so raunchy that they violate obscenity laws. It says actors — some nearly naked — toss condoms into the crowd and simulate sex acts and bestiality on stage.

Maryland Live! Opens New Poker Room to Full House

HANOVER, Md. (AP) - The 52-table poker room at Maryland's largest casino opened Wednesday.

Dealers began shuffling cards at Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover at noon. A grand opening ceremony was held at 11 a.m.

Some people got in line early, waiting over five hours to play their first hand.

US Government to Get $47.4 Mil From Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp

LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) — Casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp. has agreed to pay $47.4 million after failing to flag millions of dollars in money transfers made by a gambler linked to drug trafficking.

In return, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles will not seek an indictment against the casino operator, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The deal, finalized late Monday, also brings the government's criminal investigation to a close, but requires Las Vegas Sands to boost its efforts to monitor suspicious financial transactions for the next two years.

CNBC: ‘Seismic Shift’ Coming for UK Bookmakers as Government Imposes Tax

CNBC on Monday reported that UK-based bookmakers and other online gambling websites will be scrambling to move into the Asian and Australian markets following news that Great Britain plans to impose a 15 per cent levy on remote betting firms. 

This will hit major U.K. bookmakers like William Hill and Ladbrokes, which operate from Gibraltar, where taxes are currently levied at 1 per cent and capped at £425,000, CNBC notes.

Smaller bookmakers are likely to be forced out of the market.
