The odds to win the Open 2017 had Dustin Johnson as a favorite early on but his odds have gotten somewhat longer to 10/1 after opening at 7/1.  Johnson would pay out $100 on a $10 bet should he win The Open 2017.

Johnson is number one in the world and it was not immediately clear as to why he was such a long favorite.  In fact, these are the longest odds we have seen for a majors golf tournament in modern times.  In his heyday, Tiger Woods would typically be listed no longer than 3/1.

Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth were now both favorites at 9/1.

Spieth captured his 10th PGA Tour two weeks ago.

On being alongside Tiger Woods with 10+ PGA Tour wins before the age of 24: “I think it’s awesome. I’m hesitant and will speak out adamantly about not comparing myself to anybody else. I think that’s unfair. I don’t think anybody will do what Tiger did for the game. But it’s really cool to be out here at my age, to experience what we’re able to experience, play golf for a living. That’s a dream come true for me.

A lot of folks are betting Jon Rahm at BetOnline as his odds have been slashed from 25/1 to 12/1 over the past 24 hours.

"I've learned what I'm capable of and hopefully I'm going to go to that week trying to replicate a lot of things that I've done this week, and be as patient, as calm as I've been, and enjoy the week," Rahm said. "I know I can play good links golf and I'm going to try to enjoy it as much as I can."

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
