This NHL betting preview of the New Jersey Devils vs. Washington Capitals game is brought to you by - SBG Global with an opening line of Capitals  - 200 , Total 5.5 Under -120

The Washington Capitals look like a playoff team again this season even though their superstar Alexander Ovechkin is off to a slow start.  The New Jersey Devils, on the other hand, look like they are going to struggle without their top player, goaltender Martin Brodeur.  Washington will look to win their fifth straight game as they host the Devils on Friday. SBG Global reports that early hockey betting has the public taking   Capitals at Home.

The Capitals may not be getting much out of Ovechkin recently but they are getting great play out of Alexander Semin.  He has five goals and five assists during the Capitals winning streak.  He had a career-high five points in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Carolina. "He's on a roll right now," said linemate Nicklas Backstrom.  Semin gets to play on the same line as Ovechkin and he has taken advantage. "I hope he's going to play the same way - he's going to be the best player in the league," Ovechkin said.  Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in the win and has scored in two straight games after going nine straight without scoring.

New Jersey has not played well since losing Brodeur to injury and it doesn't look to get any easiesr. "We've got to find a way to stay in the hunt," Devils coach Brent Sutter said. "We're not going to use excuses. The easiest thing to do is say it's injuries. The bottom line is, the guys who are playing have to be rock solid."  New Jersey has lost three straight and is up against it on Friday against a red-hot Washington team. "We're playing hard and doing a lot of good things, but we're making too many mistakes," Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner said. "They're killing us and we're not capitalizing on our opportunities."

New Jersey has won six of their last eight games at Washington.  Here are more hockey betting stats for Friday's game.  The Devils are 20-7 in their last 27 vs. the Southeast. The Devils are 1-4 in their last 5 Friday games. The Devils are 1-4 in their last 5 overall. The Devils are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Washington. Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
