Michael Phelps a -5000 Favorite to Win the Gold
Talk about a favorite that nobody can bet on. Michael Phelps would require a $5000 bet just to win a measly $100 assuming he were to win, and the odds makers are assuming just that.
Gill Stoval pays $500 for every $100 bet while Ioannis Drymonakos pays $750.
Phelps biggest threat heading into Monday, however, appeared to be France's Alain Bernard, listed with +115 odds for Tuesday‘s 100M Freestyle.
"The biggest threat to the eight is the French in the relay, they have posted the best times coming into Beijing and it will be a fierce battle," said Bowman, who coached Phelps to his six golds in Athens.
Michael Phelps' had an opportunity to win eight gold medals providing him a chance to surpass swimmer Mark Spitz's Olympic record of seven gold medals at one Games - which has stood since 1972.
