The 2012 US Open kicked off on Monday with Andy Murray of Britain beating his opponent, Alex Bogomolov Jr., 6-2, 6-4, 6-1, following a rain delay.  Murray looked rusty early on.

“I thought it was a 6 or 7 out of 10,” Murray said of his performance. “I didn’t serve particularly well at the beginning of the match, but I won in three sets against a tough player and that’s what I needed to do.”

This year’s French Open winner, Maria Sharapova defeated Melinda Czink of Hungary on the women’s side, 6-2, 6-2. The match took just an hour and seven minutes.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
