Lucas Glover Win Huge for Bookies

Lucas Glover Wins

Sports Interaction Senior Bookmaker, Rob Dastidar, told Darren Rovell of CNBC Monday afternoon that Lucas Glover's shock win at this year's US Open was a "win win" for online bookmakers.

"I can't remember the last time over the last ten years that we've had so little money bet on the guys that finished on top," Dastidar said.

Glover began the tournament at odds of 175-to-1. But Dastidar told CNBC that even those odds only enticed a few bettors, with wagers that were all less than $10. This was a similar situation when Sports Interaction posted Kentucky Derby winner, Mine That Bird, with 100 to 1 odds and only witnessed small wagers, albeit a lot more than were placed on Glover.  Following that race, the online bookmaker told Gambling911.com that around a 100 bets were placed on Mine That Bird.

According to the CNBC report, little betting action was also seen on Duval, at 200-to-1, and Barnes, who opened at 1,000-to-1 to win it all.

"We also made money on all the prop bets," Dastidar said. "Most of those had to do with Phil and Tiger winning."

Dastidar stated that the odds of a top three finish involving Glover, Barnes and Duval would have come in at something like 10 million-to-1.

Gambling911.com reported swelling interest in betting on the 2009 US Open, mostly leading up to Thursday's start with very little focus on the event from bettors over the weekend.

"I don't think the average golf bettor realizes that a few of the online gambling sites, including Sports Interaction, offer wagering on the US Open throughout the tournament, updating odds in the evening," commented Gambling911.com's Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien.

Lucas Glover

Lucas Glover was the U. S. Open champ. Lucas Glover, comes out of nowhere and wins the U.S. Open. Lucas Glover toiled in obscurity in professional golf over the last few years, though he registered numerous top 10 finishes and won a few majors. But this year's 2009 U.S. Open Scoreboard featured him 2 strokes above bigger names, such as Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods (who finished at a paltry par) winning Lucas some fast cash prize money at Bethpage Black. (Luke…I am your driver!) Golf has picked up popularity over the last few years, and more ardent followers treat the U.S. Open religiously. At any rate, has his moment in the sun and no need for a cash advance for some time.
