Jockey Advantage and the 2014 Kentucky Derby Odds to Win: Who to Watch For

When one is handicapping the Kentucky Derby, we often look at the jockey advantage.  Which jockeys have an edge when it comes to riding in past Kentucky Derbys.  Sign up today at AceSportsbook.com, and they will match your initial deposit with a 100% Free PlayLive In-Play Wagering and Mobile Gambling Available.

Calvin Borel is one of the most recognized names in any Kentucky Derby.   That’s because he’s won it three times.

Who’s the lucky horse he’ll be saddling up on?

That honor goes to Ride on Curlin.

At 15-1 odds, the Borel factor alone gives him substantial value.

Unfortunately there are blemishes here.  Ride on Curlin’s only two wins came from sprinting.  He essentially placed in all six graded attempts while never seriously threatening to prevail.  Now with Borel as the jockey, could this providing the much needed tipping point?

Borel’s wins came in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Joel Rosario was last year’s Derby winner and will be saddling up on General A Rod.

That may not be a blessing since no jockey has ever won the Kentucky Derby in back-to-back years.

He's already ridden General a Rod to a third-place finish at the Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park in March.

Victor Espinoza will be riding the favorite in California Chrome.  He’s won the Kentucky Derby once riding War Emblem in 2002.

They broke from the No. 5 post, the same position he'll start from this year.  Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
