Favored to win is Charl Schwartzel at +350 for a payout potential of US$35 for every US$10 bet.

Schwartzel has won the tournament twice – in 2010 and 2011 – and he is in a race with the other two-time champion, Richard Sterne, to be the first to take the title three times.

Sterne is the defending champion, having won in 2008 and last year, but was coming in at 20/1 odds.

“Both of us have played lots of golf around here,” said Schwartzel, “so we’re pretty comfortable with it. We’re familiar with the way the ball travels through the air at altitude, we’re familiar with the way the ball behaves on kikuyu, and I think that’s one reason we’ve had a bit more success in these big tournaments at home.”

George Coetzee is the only other Joberg Open contender with single digit odds (9/1).

All other golfers taking part in the Joberg Open 2014 will pay out $200 and up on a US$10 bet.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
