The Villanova Wildcats won't have long to think about Tuesday's loss to #6 Texas as they get right back into action on Thursday against St. Joseph's.  The Wildcats lost 67-58 to a very talented Texas squad in the Jimmy V Classic. "We've got a lot of work to do," said head coach Jay Wright, "We need to play in these games and we will now. We will play against this type of physical defense again. We have to be able to make plays and still take care of the basketball. As a team, we have to rebound better."
SBG Global reports that early college basketball line has the public taking Villanova at Home.

St. Joseph's has also been busy lately, as this will be their fourth game in the last 11 days.  Senior Ahmad Nivins leads the Hawks with five double-doubles in the first eight games. He's averaging 19.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. He leads the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage (68.8), offensive rebounds (4.7) and minutes played (38.2).

Last year the Hawks rolled over Villanova 77-55 at the Palestra. That win snapped a three-game losing streak for St. Joseph's against Villanova.  This is the first time St. Joe's and Villanova have played in the month of December since 2000-2001.  The past seven years the game was played in late January or early February.  Many times in this series the games have been blowouts. The average margin of victory in the last seven meetings is 17.1 points. Villanova has won four of those last seven. Saint Joseph's average margin of victory in the past seven years is 15.3 points while Villanova's is 16 points.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
