2013 Kentucky Derby Horses That Run Best in Mud: The Mudders

These are the so-called “mudders”. Gambling911.com suggests locking these prices in immediately as these horses are likely to see their payout odds slashed.

Mylute is most certainly a horse that can run well in the slop.  He had early 15/1 odds Friday and this number is likely to be slashed heading into race time.  Yet at press time Friday afternoon, Bookmaker had Mylute at an impressive 17/1 odds.  You might want to lock this price in now.

He is the son of Midnight Luke who won the Breeders Cup in an extremely muddy track at Monmouth Park.

Goldencents appears to be another mudder with odds still hanging around 7/1 at press time.  That number was slashed by a point overnight at Bookmaker.

Dennis O’Neill said Goldencents trained on an off track at Santa Anita and appeared to skip over the surface without any difficulty, according to the San Diego Tribune.
“Just the way he’s built, and his breeding and everything, I just think he’s going to love the mud,” Dennis O’Neill said.

Calvin Borel riding Revolutionary in the mud should cause his price to be cut as well.

Palace Malace should also perform well in the slop at 30/1 odds. He took second on a sloppy Gulfstream Park oval.

Vyjack has seen his number cut nearly in half from 20/1 to 12/1 as oddsmakers anticipate he is capable of running in the slop.

Likewise, Oxbow at 40/1 odds, does enjoy a slight advantage.

Will Take Charge, on the other hand, dropped from 18/1 to 25/1 with good reason.  He hates the mud.  Definitely a horse to stay away from on Derby day.
