Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward is a long awaited match that is finally taking place this Saturday, November 19 at Oracle Arena in Oakland. †Sergey ìKrusherî Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs), the WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion, and Two-Time World Champion, Andre ìS.O.G.î Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) are finally facing off in a match that promises excitement from beginning to end.

Both these fighters are considered among the best pound for pound fighters today, Andre Ward took a long break from the ring due to problems with his promoter, in the meantime Kovalev stayed busy building his record and accumulating belts; both Kovalev and Ward are at a point where they need to prove themselves against the best in their division.

Betting on Sergey Kovalev:

The Russian fighter is as his nickname gives away, a power puncher with an 84% K.O. ratio, 26 of his 30 professional fights have ended by stoppage, Bernard Hopkins in 2014 took him to the distance and Isaac Chilemba in his most recent fight, yet this last one was more Kovalev wanting to extend the fight than anything else, or at least thatís how it looked. Kovalev is betting on his power here, his technical skills are decent and have improved but are still not comparable to Wardís.

Betting on Andre Ward:

The undefeated Andre Ward is classy, smart and a true boxer.† His KO ratio is of 50%. His skills in the ring go beyond his power and fists, itís his movement, strategy and defense that make for a great fighter, he can take a good punch, but he has certainly never faced someone with the power of Kovalev. Ward is counting on his speed and ring smarts to defeat the Russian. Wards weakness is probably the fact that he was out of the ring for a long time, having only one fight in 2012, one in 2013, none in 2014 and one in 2015. He finally regained rhythm again this year with two fights against average fighters.

Kovalev or Ward?

Physically speaking, both fighters are very similar, so it all comes down to their very different styles and skills in the ring.† The classic fight between a knockout artists and the technical boxer, this is what makes Kovalev vs. Ward such an anticipated match. Oddsmakers give Andre Ward a slight edge at -145 while Kovalev is the underdog at +115, a very interesting fight to watch and bet.

Hopkins was able to take the power of Kovalev for 12 rounds, but wasnít able to do enough to beat him, Andre Ward will need to take the fight to the distance and win on the cards, it is highly unlikely to imagine him winning any other way. Kovalev of course will try to finish the fight early on, leaving no doubt of his superior power.

Prediction:

Ward by UD† in a very close fight.
