CNN has reported that Joe Biden was chosen as Senator Barack Obama's running mate and that Biden accepted it.  This news came in shortly after midnight.

ABC News was also reporting shortly before midnight Friday night that the Secret Service had been dispatched to Senator Joe Biden's Delaware home.

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Joe Biden had become a huge favorite to be named the running mate of Democratic US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama in recent days.

Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine, both favorites at various times during the month of August, were told they would not be Obama's running mate.

There was no mention of Hillary Clinton at press time very early Saturday morning.

A text message was to be sent out announcing Obama's selection some time after 10 am EST Saturday.
