Valentin Messina Leads for Final Day of EPT Malta Main Event

The elimination of EPT Barcelona finalist Antonin Duda brought Day 5 of the €5,300 EPT Malta event to a close 30 minutes early and we now have just six players returning for the final day.

They include two Frenchmen in the lead: online cash game pro and poker coach Valentin Messina is on 7,805,000 and former pool champion Jean Montury is on 7,185,000. But the big story of the day is Dominik Panka. The 2014 PCA champion from Poland celebrated his 24th birthday by surviving nine all-ins to earn a place at the final and the chance of a second EPT title. Germany’s Hossein Ensan is the short-stack for tomorrow but still hoping to better his third-place finish at EPT Barcelona. The others in contention for the €810,400 first prize are Spanish internet pro Javier Gomez Zapatero and German sociology student Stefan Schillhabel.

Valentin Messina, France, 7,805,000
Jean Montury, France, 7,185,000
Stefan Schillhabel, Germany, PokerStars player, 5,515,000

The players will be back at noon; EPTLive will be covering the event cards-up and subject to one hour security delay so starting at 1pm; follow the stream on facebook, PokerStars.tv or on YouTube. If you're here at the event, please don't post any action until it's appeared on the webcast.

There were 895 players from 64 countries for EPT Malta, creating a €4,340,750 prize pool with €810,400 for first. As well as their cash prize and trophy, the first EPT Malta champion will also receive a stunning “Black and Steel” watch from luxury Swiss brand SLYDE, the Official Watch Sponsor for EPT Season 11 Main Events and High Rollers.
