Satoshi Poker Closes: Players Migrated to BurnTurn Amidst ‘Blame Game’

Satoshi Poker unceremoniously shut its doors after just over one year in business and it has done so amidst much finger pointing.

One of the first bitcoin-only poker sites, Satoshi sold to new owners last month, however, this group plans to abandon the Satoshi Poker software in favor of their own including the migration of all remaining players to BurnTurn.com, a soon-to-open online poker room.

Former Satoshi Poker owner, Bart van Oort, promised the world when he debuted the site last year.  It now appears he was terribly underfunded.

Van Oort and the new owners have begun playing the "blame game" in an open forum.

New owner Brandon Casten alleges that van Oort "f***ed up the source code".

On BitcoinTalk.com, van Oort accuses Casten of slander.

Bitcoin Welcome at Americas Cardroom
I am nearly finished with my preparations to sue Mr Brandon Casten and BurnTurn.eu to terminate the agreement and hand me back the software, databases etcetera. If he does, I would be able to have all players paid in at most a week after server transfer etcetera has been done. If he doesn't either hand the software back over or honour the agreement and pay Satoshi Poker's players, I will sue Mr Brandon Casten personally for the lies he has spread about the reason for not paying out the players as this is a legal ground to sue him personally in the United States. Besides that, I will sue BurnTurn.eu (by their legal name Open Source Industries Limited in Antigua) to enforce getting back control over software and backend so all players will be paid.

A representative from BurnTurn, presumably Mr. Casten, responded on the BitcoinTalk.com forums:

I would also like to remind everyone that it was Bart who is guilty of defrauding his players of around 22 BTC, when he decided to spend the funds in his players' accounts instead of segregating player funds as any reputable poker site would.  This is the only FACT that truly matters here.  He was bailed out by the BurnTurn team, who accepts this liability, but must do so in a secure fashion to ensure that players get what they are owed.  When BurnTurn goes live (very soon), all verified accounts will be credited for instant withdrawal.  That promise has not been broken, but it has taken longer than expected to unwind the web of mistakes made by Bart. The BurnTurn team would love to be live with Satoshi Poker, but the software was not ready to launch.

For its part, the new owners have issued the following statement to affected customers:

Dear Satoshi Poker Community,

Since our acquisition of Satoshi Poker in June, we have been spending a lot of time ensuring that the site would be re-launched in a secure and stable fashion. To our regret, we simply do not feel comfortable with the Satoshi Poker software and it has taken more time than planned to make necessary fixes. For this reason, we have decided to migrate all player accounts to BurnTurn Poker (www.burnturn.eu), which will be launched in the very near future.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with the Satoshi software, we are far more comfortable with what we’re developing at BurnTurn. Additionally, the development of BurnTurn has gone so quickly that we’ve decided it would be in the best interest of our players to play at BurnTurn instead of Satoshi Poker.

All account balances will be honored on BurnTurn and available as soon as we launch. The BurnTurn software is 100% open source and we have developed it ourselves, so its performance has our full confidence and we hope to earn yours as well. Again, we apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

Sincerely, The BurnTurn team
