Poker Maximus III – Day 5 Recap

The Poker Maximus III Tournament series is just about halfway over now as Monday’s action saw Events 14 through 16 crown winners. This is the final week of events leading up to Sunday’s big finales; try to get in on a piece of the action sometime this week. On Monday we saw our first Stud tournament be played as the other forms of poker continue to thrive at Carbon.  Join Carbon here today and start making top $$$$.

Event #14: $30,000 Guaranteed NLH turbo – ($200+15 buy-in)

The big event of the day was this $200 buy-in NLH turbo tournament that saw 261 players take part. Given that it was a turbo event, players everywhere just had to hope to get a good hand early that would hold up and they could build their stack from there. The top 26 got paid, but the real big pay days were at the final table.

The final two standing at that table were jigmog7 and JinxyCatt. They weren’t about to screw around with what had worked for them to get to this point and all the chips were in the middle before a flop came down. Jigmog7 was in the lead with Ac,Qs vs JinxyCatt’s Kc,8h but when the flop came 8-high it was going to be tough sledding for jigmog7 on the shorter stack. The turn and the river brought no help when two Jacks fell, giving JinxyCatt the win and $7300 in 1st place cash.

Final Table Payouts and Prize Winners:

1 JinxyCatt $7320.00; 2 jigmog7 $4860.00; 3 JezicaWabbit $3000.00; 4 BluffmonAA $2250.00; 5 CreekJohnson $1860.00; 6 EstyzBalln $1500.00; 7 wivilwivil $1200.00; 8 grzesiek5555 $960.00; 9 Rebeca90 $750.00

Event #15: $7,500 Guaranteed Heads Up NLH– ($30+3 buy-in)

The heads-up events in Poker Maximus series’ are always some of the player’s favorites because it allows them to match wits one-on-one. With only a $30 buy-in for this event the stakes were able to reach a broader field and 239 players ended up taking the plunge. Waiting for heads-up matches to conclude can take a while though and even with the field being cut in half after one round, this tournament still needed nearly 5 hours to complete.

It was acrosepp and BLOthePOKERguy who managed to outlast everyone else in the field and showdown for the title. After these two had been playing for a few hours and taken down numerous opponents, they were ready to gamble and luckily for BLOthePOKERguy, it worked out for him on the river of the final hand. Both players were holding weak Jacks in their hand and were happy betting and calling along after the flop came 7c,Jh,5d. A turn card of the 2d didn’t help anyone but acrosepp was still in the lead with his Jc,6c vs. the Js,4c. However, it was BLOthePOKERguy who decided to shove all-in after the turn and was called by his opponent. When the 4s came on the river though, the tournament ended on a very tough beat for acrosepp and he left the table with his $1125 consolation prize. Congrats to BLOthePOKERguy on the win.

Final table results

1 BLOthePOKERguy $2025.00; 2 acrosepp $1125.00; 3 FresnoDull $600.00; 4 garnet1178 $600.00; 5 pifumltc $262.50; 6 Hollywood316 $262.50; 7 cowboygotOIIIII $262.50; 8 OneOuted1 $262.50; 9 33THOR33 $112.50

Event #16: $5,000 Guaranteed Stud – ($55+5 buy-in)

The first Stud tournament of Poker Maximus III saw 106 players enter for a shot at what turned out to be a little over $1600 first prize. As with other smaller fields in these events, only the top of the top can cash and for this one the final 18 managed to get a pay day in. In the end it came down to ImASingleLady and FatBoyAlbert in a great battle that saw the former prevail.

In the final hand, ImASingleLady got three clubs right off the bat and was willing to push them for a shot at a flush. She didn’t know it at the time, but she was up against Th,9h,Jc right off the bat as FatBoyAlbert was going for a big hand with a straight himself. However, after ImASingleLady was showing a pair of aces after fifth street, she knew that might be good and put the last of her opponent’s chips in the middle. Her aces held up and she took home the title.

Final table results:

1 ImASingleLady $1614.91; 2 FatBoyAlbert $1049.40; 3 twin57 $699.60; 4 SucksAtLife $466.40; 5 Spinel $373.12; 6 YourGoneAA $291.50; 7 MaxAxe66 $233.20; 8 YesImLifted420 $186.56; 9 AlexBalex $145.75
