Poker Maximus II – Day 5 Recap

The Poker Maximus II Tournament series is just about halfway over now as Monday’s action saw Events 14 through 16 crown winners. With three tournaments a day for the rest of the week and four on Sunday (the final day) there are still plenty of opportunities for you to get out there and take home your own big payday.   Learn More About Poker Maximus Here

Event #14: $15,000 Guaranteed NLH unlimited rebuys and add-on – ($10+1 buy-in)

After 785 players had entered, rebought and added-on, this $15,000 guaranteed tournament ended up with a total prize pool of $26,430. Not a bad chunk of change to play for in a $10 buy-in tournament. It was the first shorthanded tournament of the day and it came down to Copenhagen87 and Nokaman after 8 solid hours of play. Here’s how the winner was crowned:

After min-raising the big blind with his A-5 suited, Nokaman was surprised to see Copenhagen87 play back at him and re-raise. Nokaman decided that it was quite unlikely his hand was beat at this stage and shoved all in for a little over 1.4 million in chips. Copenhagen87’s raise was only to 246K, so this was quite the big move. Copenhagen87 was unfazed though and called it with his A,10 and the race was on. The board showed a flop of little help to either player (4h,2s,9h) and when it was followed by the 8h and Qd respectively, the ace with the 10 kicker was good enough for the win. Congratulations to Copenhagen87 for winning Event #14.

Final Table Payouts and Prize Winners:

1 Copenhagen87 $4968.85; 2 Nokaman $3657.92; 3 M1lkD0ug7t9 $2695.87; 4 Diam0ndDixie $1850.11; 5 arzcardzfan $1347.94; 6 TubsMcllroy $792.91; 7 PawtasticPuppiesCOM $555.04; 8 OliveFTW $555.04; 9 ScottFischman88 $555.04

Event #15: $20,000 Guaranteed Shorthanded NLH– ($30+3 buy-in)

Shorthanded tournaments tend to attract a lot of players and Event #15 was no different as 1009 players tried to get their piece of the eventual $30,270 pot. After 8.5 hours of play, winter85 was crowned the winner of this event and took home $5515.20 for his efforts.

By the time the final hand came around, winter85 had a decent chip lead over alsweetbread with the blinds rapidly increasing at 40K/80K. Alsweetbread decided to go all-in and make a stand with his Js,4s from the small blind and winter85 had no problem calling 486K more chips with his Ac,3s. No help came for alsweetbread on a board of 2c,Kd,6h,8d and the river Ah made winter85’s win academic. Congrats to all that cashed in this event.

Final table results

1 winter85 $5515.20; 2 alsweetbread $4128.83; 3 MidgetMadness $2966.47; 4 kirby033 $2058.37; 5 SOLOMUN $1483.24; 6 CEOFTC $877.84; 7 pandabearII12 $605.41; 8 1CARNIFEX1 $605.41; 9 mrjakobgold $605.41

Event #16: $40,000 Guranateed NLH Shorthanded Freezeout – ($100+9 buy-in)

500 entrants boosted this prize pool an extra $10 grand as the players battled on the virtual felt for their share of the $50K pot. In just under 8 hours we had our winner as exploitz outlasted the other 499 players to take home the $9800 payday. Here’s how he did it:

Like the final hand in Event #15, this tournament ended on a preflop all-in by the short stack player guttaville88 in heads-up play. Guttaville88’s Jd,9h was no match for exploitz Ah,Qc though and when the board blanked both players until a Q on the river made it official. Congrats to exploitz on taking home the 1st place prize.  Learn More About Poker Maximus Here
