Poker Legend Doyle Brunson is Mad as Hell at Joe Biden, Obama

Doyle Brunson
Aug 26 2008 - 9:39pm

Poker pro Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson is mad. At Barack Obama, of all people. Why?

For picking Joe Biden as his running mate.

Because?

Because, Brunson fumes, Biden is a hothead and a potential screw-up. Writing on his web log or "blog"-his online diary-at www.doylesroom.com, Brunson commented last Friday:

"I've been watching the news all afternoon and it looks like Joe Biden is going to be Obama's running mate. I think it is a bad choice because Biden is hot headed and might screw up royally. I think Hillary would have cinched the election if he had picked her. But, what do I know, I was a George W. man. If McCain picks Romney as his running mate, all the gamblers had better vote for Obama."

Why should "all the gamblers" vote for Obama?

Brunson doesn't say, according to Thomas Somach of PokerHelper.com and a regular contributor to the Gambling911.com website.

"He also doesn't say how Biden "might" screw up-just that he would do it "royally."

In addition, he doesn't explain why Hillary Clinton would have been a better running mate for Obama or why he was "a George W. man," says Somach who takes a swipe at the old man."Brunson doesn't even say who he is going to vote for."

As a poker player, Brunson is one of the best, if not the best, in the world.

But as a political pundit, he's horrible, Somach insists.

"Yo, Doyle! Just because you won 10 gold bracelets at the World Series of Poker, it doesn't mean you know what you're talking about in any venue other than poker.

Especially politics. As you yourself wrote on your blog, ‘What do I know?'"

Gambling911.com's own Jenny Woo has come to Doyle's defense. Doyle Brunson was named Jenny Woo's Sexiest Poker Players of 2008. She also interviewed the modest legend, who gave more of a subtle hint of who he will be voting for in November (unless Biden's made him change his mind).

"He is not thrilled with John McCain. We know this based on our conversation," Woo says.

Lifelong Republican and poker legend Doyle Brunson told Gambling911.com's Jenny Woo, he will vote Democrat for the first time in his adult life, which translates into about a century.

"Well I'm a life long Republican," said Brunson, whose own online poker room is among the most recognized in the world. "But I think I'm probably going to vote Democrat this year, because of the way that they ran the Internet gaming bill through. I think that maybe the Democrats will be a little bit more lenient with the online gambling."
