Ludovic Lacay Wins EPT9 Sanremo

Ludovic Lacay has won EPT9 Sanremo – and his first major title - for €744,910.

The 27-year-old French pro’s full house ended Canadian Jason Lavallee’s hopes of victory after a brief heads up battle. Lavallee, 26, from Quebec, had been the narrow chip leader at the start of the final, which took place in Casino Sanremo’s elegant theatre.

A total of 797 players from 52 countries entered the €5,300 Main Event, creating a total prize pool of €3,865,450.

Lacay has been playing EPTs since Season 4 and has already cashed in nine, including eighth place at EPT5 Warsaw and 21st at the EPT6 Grand Final. Before Sanremo, his best live cash – and the result that first put him in the spotlight outside Europe - was 16th in the 2009 WSOP Main Event for just over $500,000.

Regarding his win in Sanremo, Lacay said: "It feels pretty good. It's the accomplishment, getting there and beating all the players. When you start a tournament you aim for the first place but you never expect it. Here I am, it's amazing."

As well as the EPT trophy he has craved for so long, Lacay also receives a stunning Slyde watch worth more than €5,000 from luxury Swiss brand HD3, the Official Watch Sponsor for EPT9 Main Events.

Team Online’s Luca Moschitta was the highest-placed PokerStars representative in the Main Event, finishing 25th for €19,000. Team PokerStars Pros Ana Marquez and EPT6 Sanremo champion Liv Boeree were also among the 120 players who made the money.

The final of the EPT Sanremo Main Event was broadcast as live on www.PokerStars.tv - hole cards up, with one hour delay - in English and Italian.

In EPT Sanremo side events, EPT London champion Benny Spindler won the €10k High Roller for €253,000. The German pro also received his second bracelet from Shamballa Jewels, who are now the Official Bracelet Sponsor of EPT9 High Roller events. Finnish player Vesa Leikos won the €2k NL side event for €210,000 after outlasting a 450-strong field. French veteran Roger Hairabedian beat Italian Team PokerStars Pro Max Martinez to take down the €990 Heads-up tourney while Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo won the Ladies Invitational TV tourney.

The EPT Sanremo Festival took place October 3 - 11, 2012 at Casino Sanremo. The Official Payment Provider Sponsor of EPT Season 9 is paysafecard, a prepaid payment solution whereby people exchange cash for paysafecard vouchers to use online.
