Former astrophysics student Liv Boeree has rocketed to the top spot in the EPT San Remo Main Event. The UB.com pro conquered a field of 1,240 to win the tournament on Wednesday evening local time. Boeree leaves the San Remo, Italy tournament with the title and a €1,250,000 paycheck after some back-and-forth blind swapping with Jackob Carlsson during heads-up play.

The final hand saw Boeree raise to 700,000 from the button with Jakob Carlsson shoving all in from the big blind. Boeree called and her pocket fives held up to Carlsson's A, 6.

This year has proven to be extremely lucrative for UB.com's female pros. Last month, Annie Duke won the NBC Heads-Up Championships title and a $500,000 first place prize. Duke was the first female to win that event.

Boeree began her poker career on the television series UltimatePoker Showdown in August 2005. There, she learned some valuable tips from Annie Duke, one of the poker world's best female players.

In just a few years, Liv Boeree has secured multiple top-10 finishes in a number of first place wins in Texas Hold'em tournaments across London. In May 2008, Boeree claimed the top spot in the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship, besting a field of 53 players for $30,000 in cash and positioning herself as a top female poker player.
